This stunning Lowden F-50C Fan Fret model was built as part of their Limited Edition batch of guitars built to celebrate Lowden's 50th Anniversary.
From Lowden about this very special run of guitars:
"In 1974 George Lowden started designing and making his guitars in County Down, where they are still built today. To celebrate 50 years of the Lowden guitar, we are pleased to present a very special collection of limited edition Master Series, 50, 35, and Original Series.
The 50th Anniversary collection features an exclusive selection of 150 limited edition Master Series, 50, 35, and Original series guitars.
Every guitar features a special limited edition label, mother of pearl lowden logo, front of headstock 50th inlay , and a 1974 inlay on the heel cap. The 35 and 50 series 50th Anniversary models also feature a 1974 logo in abalone on the back head facing.
The collection features a wide range of tone woods and options, with the cornerstone being the 50th Anniversary Bois De Rose, a very limited number of 50 series guitars featuring the beautiful and increasingly rare Bois De Rose for the back and sides.
To showcase the Lowden story and range around the world we have worked with our retail partners, some of the world’s finest, to prepare limited mini-collections of five individual 50th Anniversary guitars.
Each retail partner’s unique 50th Anniversary mini-collection is their personal celebration: a custom range of Lowden limited editions to choose from, providing unparalleled choice to their customers."
This particular guitar features Master Grade Boi De Rose back and sides paired with Master Grade Alpine Spruce top. The body features a Venetian cutaway and Arm Bevel for maximum comfort, and the Fan-Fret neck design offers superior intonation, especially when tuning down or things like DADGAD, open D, etc.
From the Wood Database about Bois de Rose: "This sought-after and prized hardwood is only found on the African island of Madagascar. Bois de Rose is french for “rosewood,” and it is in the true rosewood genus (Dalbergia), and could rightly be referred to as Madagascar Rosewood. But to avoid confusion, the common name Madagascar Rosewood belongs to another tree species endemic to Madagascar: Dalbergia baronii."
"When I began making guitars under the Lowden name 50 years ago, I could have never imagined that my guitars would go on to be played by some of the best-loved guitarists across genres.
It has been a real privilege to work with many iconic musicians over the years to create guitars that I hoped would perhaps inspire them as they make music. From up-and-coming guitarists learning their first chords on Lowden guitars and then even seeing our instruments being played in stadiums and arenas, we owe all of Lowden’s progress over the years to our players who have grown to be much more than customers but inspirations, collaborators, supporters and very much part of the Lowden family." -- George Lowden
