Presenting the all new Taylor Jacob Collier Signature Model JCSM-5 5-String Guitar.
This 5-string edition of the Jacob Collier Signature Model is inspired by a custom 5-string Taylor acoustic guitar that the acclaimed singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer has been playing for several years.
Designed in conjunction with Jacob, it features Taylor’s compact Grand Concert body style and is crafted with solid, Select-grade Hawaiian koa top, back and sides that display rich variegation.
The ebony chosen for the fretboard, bridge and headstock overlay features natural marbling, showcasing a blend of espresso and caramel hues. The visual character of the woods gives each guitar its own unique personality, which means each owner will enjoy a truly one-of-a-kind instrument to inspire their musical pursuits.
Like Jacob’s personal Taylor guitar, the JCSM-5 is tuned to DAEAD to offer players the same unique voicing he loves. For beginners, this makes the guitar more accessible with simpler chord voicings.
Jacob's interest in playing a 5-string acoustic guitar tuned to DAEAD came from his unconventional exposure to the guitar as a young musician—a combination of having played bass originally, and being exposed to a 4-string tenor guitar tuned in fifths.
Though he was a self-described guitar novice at the time, his sophisticated understanding of music and harmonic relationships allowed him to hear the voicing possibilities of a 5-string guitar with those unique tuning intervals.
"I started to imagine a sort of language of guitar playing where it was half in fourths and half in fifths because I think both are really helpful and important," he said in a podcast conversation with Paul Davids.
For more advanced players, the JCSM-5 offers a whole new tonal palette to explore, which promises to spark fresh musical discoveries.
