Mesa Boogie
The original "Boutique" amplifier company, the team at Mesa Boogie have been innovating the world of guitar amplification for over 50 years.
With a rich musical background and a love for tube-based electronics, Randall Smith as far back as the late 60s was working diligently toward a high gain revolution of his own in guitar amplifiers. Even as he was working for the Bay Area’s biggest stars doing amp repairs, behind the scenes Smith was developing a totally new “cascading” tube preamp circuit squeezed into in a compact high power combo amplifier that would change the way guitarists would sound–and play–forever more.
Today there are a host of features that are considered to be standard "must-haves" for modern amps that were all pioneed by Mesa, including things like cascading gain circuits, channel switching, effects loops, and more.
While Randall Smith is no longer a part of the team at Mesa, he leaves behind a rich legacy of innovation and a talented group of designers and builders with decades of experience that will continue Mesa's heritage on into the future.
